Aerial view of the Fernwood Lodge log cabin surrounded by autumn foliage

Autumn at Fernwood

When the woods around Glen Spey turn gold and red, the lodge gets cozy, with the wood-burning stove lit by evening.

01

When the color peaks

In the Upper Delaware valley, leaves usually turn from early to late October, depending on the year's weather. Higher ridges turn first, the river valley follows.

02

Fall drives from the lodge

Route 97 follows the Delaware River north from Port Jervis past the Hawk's Nest overlook toward Barryville and Narrowsburg. It is one of the best foliage drives in the region. Roebling's Delaware Aqueduct and Lackawaxen make a good stop along the way.

03

Back at the cabin

Autumn nights in the woods are cool. When conditions allow, light the fire pit under the pergola while it is still light, then move inside to the wood burning stove and a board game.
